2023 Meetings
Thursday 2nd March at 2pm at Heswall Tennis Club
Sandra will be giving a talk about how we developed our garden, the National Garden Scheme (NGS), the charities involved, how we have participated in the scheme and some of the lovely gardens you can visit. There will be lots of new gardens this year so come along and hear all about the NGS.
£3 charge to cover donation to the NGS and room charge.
Thursday 6th April at 2pm at Heswall Tennis Club
Ken Black will give a talk about growing clematis to include a demonstration on propagation and a chance to buy some cuttings. £3 charge to cover speaker and room hire
Ken is opening his garden for the NGS which is called Adswood in Mollington on 8th, 9th, 29th and 30th April so perhaps you can follow up the talk with a visit to his lovely garden. Full details can be found on the NGS website.
Thursday 4th May
The Bodnant coach trip is now booked up with a waiting list. Alison Adlard has sent out details in the HH activities newsletter about payment if you are not a National Trust member. We are really looking forward to an exciting day in Wales and seeing Bodnant at it’s spring best.
Thursday 1st June
We will be returning to Sandymere garden near Delamere with an optional visit to Morreys Nursery in Kelsall beforehand and lunch at the Fishpool Inn. Sandymere is home to Sir John Timpson, Chairman of Timpsons and foster carer to 90 children. He has opened his beautiful garden for the NGS for many years. £7 charge donated to the NGS. Please indicate whether you would like me to book lunch as well as the garden.
Thursday 13 th July
We will be visiting Rachel Summers beautiful garden in Caldy. The committee will provide refreshments and the cost is £7. You may remember that Rachel gave us an excellent talk about Caldy Open Gardens and Koala NW last year so proceeds will go to Koala NW.
Thursday 3rd August visit to 6 Oakland Vale, New Brighton at 2 - 3pm or 3 -4pm
We have arranged a visit to a new but quite small tropical garden located on Magazines Promenade in New Brighton which sounds quite magical. The garden is only open by appointment in August so we are lucky to get a booking. We have 2 slots from 2-3pm or 3-4 pm and can take 12 at each session. The cost is £8 to include tea/cake with gluten/vegan options available to pre-order.
There is no parking on the promenade so follow directions in the NGS booklet or on the website for parking information and car share where possible. Please bring a folding chair if you have one
Friday 1st September
Karen has agreed to give us one of her popular talks at Gordale at 2pm. Please book places by 24th August. There is no cost for this meeting.
Thursday 2nd November
We have booked a coach trip to Bents garden centre at Glazebury. We went there a few years ago and it really is the best garden centre in the region for Christmas decorations and they have great eating venues. The cost will be only £11 (we are subsidising the cost from a small surplus in the gardening club funds).
We have booked a 33 seater coach and I already have interest from 24 people including 10 members from Wirral Belles WI so I’m hoping we can fill the coach. Please reserve your place as soon as possible and we will be taking payment at the September meeting.
